After reflecting upon the 5 tips to being the Educator of Choice; I believe that my biggest strength among them is being confident. After years of learning experiences and interacting with children, I have no doubt in my mind that I will be an amazing teacher! Does that mean I have all the answers? No. Does that mean there won't be any stumbling blocks? Of course not. However, as a educator that has a passion to teach and impart into many young people; I am confident that each student in my class will learn and will be able to make connections.
One of the five tips that I could improve on is to leave it all on the table. Sometimes when I finish a conversation and reflect back, I catch myself saying "Oh, I should have said this", or "I should have added....". Because I am a naturally shy person I may forget to include certain things or if the conversation takes a turn then I'll stick to what is being talked about. I can definitely work on this by staying focused throughout the interviews, and making sure I have questions to always engage the conversation. One thing I can say about being that Educator of choice is to ALWAYS BE YOURSELF. Often times educators get this misconception that in interviews they have to respond as though they have the answers to everything. Like I've mentioned before; we don't always have the answers and teaching is an never ending learning experience. The best way to be that educators choice is to be yourself and be genuinely honest as to why you want to be in that position. Make connections and talk about real experiences that you have had before. I love the quote, "Be original, because everyone else is taken". Everyone has their own uniqueness that they bring to the table. Find yours and present it well.

I enjoyed reading the Compelled Educator Blog about 74 practical ways to build relationships with students. There were some practical ways that I read that I practice now with my students. I do agree that taking out time to build these student relationship are important. In fact, they're necessary to enhance the classroom learning environment. Six of the strategies that I really spoke me to were:
I believe that it is very important to build relationships in and out the classroom. Not only in your own personal class but also with other students on campus. One particular 4th Grade student who is not in my class has the opportunity to build a relationship at the beginning of the year. Everyday during the walkers dismissal, we would walk and talk everyday until she reached her destination. I got the chance to learn that she was into Soccer, had a little brother, and how she enjoyed her Science classes. Building these relationships with students is essential and teachers should set time aside to fulfill if not all at least some of the practical ways to get to know their students. They become more comfortable around you, the classroom management will increase, and everyone will be more willing to interact during the lessons. It also helps you as a teacher to know how to differentiate instruction and know what real world connections you could apply to the lesson. It's Amazing!
